The idea of quitting your 9-5 job and starting your own work at home business sounds great. Isn’t it equal with having freedom to work on your own terms: in the hours you want, in the place you want and with people you choose. In contrast, being your own boss sounds simply great!
So, is it easy to succeed at work at home based business?
First of all you need to possess certain qualities to start and develop such a business. These are: time management, motivation, self-confidence, ability to market yourself, patience and realistic upfront cost. Not everyone has got these qualities and obviously these people prefer to have a job and receive a check every month.
Consider these reasons to prevent your easy home based business from failing:
1. Time. When you first start, you will need to dedicate a lot of time to your home-based business, more so if you are building it as you continue to work your ‘day job’. It is when people quit often because they don’t see immediate results. You should expect to spend 10-15 hours per week building your business.
2. Goal. Successful entrepreneurs write out measurable goals. List your goals in time increments (this week, this month, 6 months, one year) along with how to achieve them.
3. Business plan. Many work at home based businesses fail because the owner doesn’t feel she needs a business plan. Such a business plan should mention what is the business all about, the budget, competitors, marketing actions, goals and vision.
4. Daily schedule. Developing online home based business can be hard if you don’t control the distractions, like watching tv for example. It is importnat that you write down which tasks will you do in which time.
5. Marketing. You have to promote your business if you want to be successful. Even having the greatest product or service if no one knows about it, do you think, you will succeed? You need to drive traffic to your website and market your business offline as well.
6. Cost. Most work-at-home business don’t need much start-up money, but you will need to keep in mind some costs, like office equipment, advertising and marketing, business cards, building and maintaining website (or paying someone to), any software, classes or seminars particular to your business, or simply a pay decrease from what you were used to earning at your 9-5 job.
7. Motivation. It can be difficult to make the leap from day job to a home business. That’s why self-motivation is so essential, either you have it or learn or, the work at home based business is not for you. You will have to work twice as hard as you did working for someone else, remain focused on short- and long-term goals, and sell your product or service on a daily basis.
8. Belief. You must believe in yourself even when friends and family give you a hundred reasons why it won’t work . Those who are successful are passionate about what they do and believe they will be successful – they don’t pay too much attention to those who want to stop them, especially when they don’t have logical arguments to discuss about your choices.
9. Patience. It’s hard to remain patient when you don’t see immediate results, but patience is the cornerstone to longevity. Don’t give up too early, keep working on your goals.
Most successful entrepreneurs possess only average intelligence, but what makes them successful is their willingness to work hard, be open-minded and constantly learn, and never see failure as an option. Look at your online home based business as any other job, work hard on it and don’t give up.
