People who blog full-time will tell you that it is not easy work. Writing involves passion, creativity, and time. Even famous writers such as Ann Rice probably do not write every single day. Bloggers have no choice. You may have found a way monetize your blog; maybe not. In either case, if you do have the drive to make money from your blog, you can sell, or “flip” your blog, and still have some creative input into it – and let someone else (who is probably better at it) worry about all the maintenance, so that you concentrate on writing.
Blogs can often be sold for 1-2 years of residual income. In other words, you can make money during this time without without all of the maintenance of the blog – or throwing your years of hard work down the drain. Usually, the new blog owner/investor is not necessarily interested in changing the core message of your blog – although due to different interpretations they may demand some minor [changes. However, the heart of your blog will {likely|normally|usually|almost always} remain as you intended. But what if you actually ENJOY the creative release? Well, investors will often let you contribute (while sharing the increased revenues!) In fact, they are quite often inclined to ask you to stay on, due to the simple fact that they don’t want to take a risk on new writers, buy articles, or worst of all, write it themselves.
And think about this: even if you are writing for a blog network, you still have to promote your blog. If you don’t actually like the business side of things, it may be better for your sanity to look for a buyer/investor who is willing to ”play ball” monetarily and take over these operational tasks.
To maximize your income, it may be in your best interest to prepare your blog for resale (use the exit strategy!) Potential buyers often scout for blogs that have many long posts with lots of keywords, and still have a clearly-defined focus. If you have a niche blog, even better. Knowledge of what types of social networking and advertising works best with your blog can ramp up the value to the investor dramatically, increasing the price that the blog commands – as well as any product-driven monetizing. If you are currently bringing in income from selling ebooks, sales negotiation is clearly in your court.
If you want to flip immediately, don’t stress yourself out about the remodeling. There are hordes of investors willing to look at a fixer-upper for the right price. Most importantly, do your research. Find out the going rate for blogs in your niche. Be quick to reply to inquiries from interested buyers and make your self highly available via email or social network sites such as Twitter. Ask questions and give lots of statistics. Explain to your potential investor what you dreamed of doing but didn’t have time to do – ideas to improve the site and drive traffic will help them to decide on their next move.
In summary, one of the easiest methods to cash out your blog is to let an investor(who has the financial means and expertise) take over any tasks you’d rather not spend your time on – such as promoting, designing, and marketing.
